The redevelopment of St Audoen’s Park saw a complete redesign and replant of the park grounds as part of Dublin City Council’s Greening Strategy. The new park, that opened to the public in 2018, has had a very positive impact on community wellbeing in the area. The redesign has made the park an attractive place to visit, and has seen an increase in social activity, from locally organised events to tourists and visitors enjoying the gardens.
Previously, the park had been dominated by grass, heavy tree line and over ground hedging. The redesign has embraced the planting of eight different planting combinations, bullbs, and a wider variety of trees to enhance biodiversity.
St Audoen’s Park was nominated for the ‘Green Cities Europe Award’ by landscape contractor Red Landscapes.

Supported by European Union Funding, the Green Cities Europe campaign aims to combat the consequences of climate change and improve living and working conditions by encouraging the inclusion of green spaces in new building projects, and by adding them to existing projects. The Green Cities Europe campaign is being run by Bord Bia – The Irish Food Bord in Ireland on behalf of the Irish Hardy Nurserystock Association (IHNSA).

St. Audeon’s Park sits alongside St. Audoen’s Church at Cornmarket in Dublin city centre.
